US Exposes Italy Tech Group Linked to Far-Left Extremists
The United States designated Italian technology collective Autistici/Inventati as a global terrorist entity, accusing it of providing encrypted communications to violent far-left groups in America and Europe.
The A/I Collective builds and provides the digital infrastructure for violent Antifa cells and other radical left-wing networks in the United States and across the world.

The State Department and Treasury on 26 August placed Autistici/Inventati, known as the A/I Collective, on the Specially Designated Global Terrorist list, according to Brussels Signal. The move freezes any US-based assets and prohibits American citizens and financial institutions from conducting transactions with the organisation. Violations carry potential civil or criminal penalties.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio described far-left terrorism as a serious danger to the United States and the wider Western world. He stated that Washington had sanctioned Autistici/Inventati as a major far-left technology group whose platforms are exploited by the most active and violent Antifa networks in America and internationally.

According to official documents, the Italy-based extremist organisation develops encrypted email and messaging systems, web hosting services, video conferencing capabilities and anonymity tools. The collective reportedly vets users based on ideological compatibility and maintains approximately 16,000 mailboxes, 1,500 websites, 5,500 mailing lists and 10,000 blogs. These platforms enable militants to distribute target lists, tactical manuals and responsibility claims for violent actions.
Portland Antifa Cell Named as User
A State Department memorandum obtained by Fox News Digital identifies Portland’s Rose City Antifa as a user of the collective’s services, as Brussels Signal reports. The memo alleges that a media platform hosted on the network disseminated material to Hamas, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Hezbollah, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and related organisations.
Rose City Antifa allegedly used A/I Collective infrastructure to circulate personal data on Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers and to advocate for targeted attacks on agents at their residences and in public spaces. Katie Daviscourt of The Post Millennial has documented that the Portland blog Rose City Counter-Info published names, photographs and purported home addresses of ICE personnel on a Noblogs domain.
European Railway Sabotage Linked to Platform
The State Department asserts that anarchist cells responsible for sabotaging railways in France, Italy, Germany and the Netherlands during 2026 relied on A/I tools to claim responsibility and circulate instructions for improvised incendiary devices.
The same communications infrastructure was reportedly used by those claiming the March sabotage of the Transalpine Pipeline, which temporarily halted crude oil flows to Austria, Germany and the Czech Republic. Germany’s Vulkangruppe allegedly used the platform following a January strike that cut electricity to roughly 45,000 Berlin households.
That attack also affected some 2,000 businesses and left portions of the city without power for five days.
Italian Olympic Sabotage and Arrests
In Italy, anarchists damaged a railway line during the Milano-Cortina Winter Olympics before posting a claim and manifesto on an A/I-hosted website, according to the State Department. The high-speed Rome-Florence line was severed on 14 February using rudimentary explosive devices, causing €455,000 in damage.
Italian authorities arrested seven individuals on charges of terrorist association and subversion of democratic order. A Rome investigating judge ordered the arrests on 16 June, remanding five suspects in custody and placing two under house arrest.
Additional Designations and PKK Links
The same package of sanctions also designated British group Palestine Action, proscribed in the United Kingdom in July 2025, and the transnational network Masar Badil, which Treasury officials characterised as a front for the Samidoun network.
Treasury documents further allege that Autistici/Inventati provided services to the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, listed as a terrorist organisation by the United States, United Kingdom and European Union.
Collective Founded as Volunteer Project
Autistici/Inventati was established in Italy in 2001 as a volunteer initiative offering free, non-commercial digital tools. The organisation describes itself as antifascist, anticapitalist and antimilitarist.
The collective has rejected the accusations entirely. Italian media outlets report that it characterises its work as digital self-defence for activists and associations.
