Rep. Chip Roy Leads GOP Push for DHS Deportation Details
Representative Chip Roy and four Republican colleagues are demanding detailed deportation statistics from the Department of Homeland Security since President Trump returned to office.
According to Breitbart News, Roy, a Texas Republican, has joined forces with Representatives Eric Burlison of Missouri, Eli Crane of Arizona, Andrew Clyde of Georgia, and Mark Harris of North Carolina in sending a letter to DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin requesting comprehensive arrest and deportation data.
The lawmakers are seeking transparency on the Trump Administration’s immigration enforcement operations following what they describe as years of failed border policies under the previous administration. Roy emphasized that a complete accounting of enforcement actions remains essential as Congress and the American people observe the historic restoration of border security.
The congressional inquiry focuses on several specific data points. Roy and his colleagues want exact numbers of illegal aliens apprehended near the southern border who were subsequently removed from the country. They are also requesting totals for interior arrests and deportations that have occurred since January 20, 2025.
The Republican representatives are demanding a geographical and operational breakdown of enforcement activities. This includes separating arrests conducted in non-sanctuary jurisdictions and workplace enforcement operations from those taking place at courthouses, detention facilities, and private residences. The lawmakers have additionally requested state-by-state arrest and deportation totals.
Roy stated that detailed reporting on arrests, removals, and enforcement activities will enable policymakers to assess progress and identify areas for improvement as the administration pursues what Trump has described as the largest deportation operation in American history.
Acting Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director David Venturella recently indicated that DHS has deported more than 900,000 illegal aliens since Trump took office. However, that figure lacks the granular detail Congress is now demanding.
The current deportation statistics do not distinguish between removals occurring at the border and those conducted in the interior of the United States. This gap in reporting leaves lawmakers uncertain about the scope and distribution of enforcement operations across different jurisdictions.
In a final request that underscores the scale of the illegal immigration crisis, Roy has asked DHS to provide an updated estimate of the total number of illegal aliens currently residing in American communities. The Department has not issued an official estimate on this figure in nearly two decades.
