Speaking on NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday, Pence acknowledged Trump’s enduring popularity among Republican voters while raising concerns about policy directions taken during the second Trump administration, according to Breitbart News.

When host Kristen Welker referenced Senator Lindsey Graham’s recent assertion that the Republican Party belongs to Donald Trump, Pence offered a nuanced response that recognized the president’s political influence while questioning his ideological consistency.

The former vice president credited Trump for his willingness to confront the radical left both during their shared term and afterward, but argued that recent policy choices represent a departure from traditional conservative governance.

Pence identified four pillars of conservatism dating back to Ronald Reagan and earlier: American leadership on the world stage, limited government, free-market economics, and protection of the right to life. He suggested the current administration has strayed from this framework on multiple fronts.

While offering praise for specific Trump policies including border security measures, tax cut extensions, and unwavering support for Israel, Pence voiced opposition to what he characterized as protectionist economic intervention and weakened commitment to international alliances.

The former vice president specifically criticized broad-based tariff policies, what he described as nationalizing American businesses, and reduced support for allies facing Russian aggression in Eastern Europe.

Pence concluded by urging Republicans to engage in serious reflection about core party principles and communicate those beliefs effectively to the American people, signaling continued tension within the conservative movement over Trump’s leadership and policy direction.
