Pence ‘Heartened’ After Trans Ex-CIA Briefer Praises Treatment

Julia Curlee, who served as Pence’s intelligence briefer, recently credited the former vice president with treating her with considerable respect throughout her tenure, according to Kiara Moore writing in Washington Examiner. Pence addressed the comments during a Sunday appearance on CNN’s State of the Union.

The former vice president acknowledged his conservative positions are widely recognized, but emphasized that Christian principles include treating others with decency and respect. He said he appreciated Curlee’s kind words and was heartened to learn she felt respected while working in his office.

Curlee told MS Now that despite Pence’s public record opposing same-sex marriage and transgender individuals serving in the military, he never diminished her during their professional interactions. She described being treated with profound respect and dignity throughout her assignment.

The former intelligence officer recalled specific instances of Pence’s courteous behavior, including his habit of taking notes and asking questions during briefings. When her assignment concluded, he invited her family to the White House and told her mother, You must be very proud of your daughter, while taking her hand.

Dismissal Following Political Pressure

Curlee’s comments emerged as part of a detailed essay published in the Atlantic titled “The Wrong Kind of American,” in which she recounted her removal from government service. She revealed she was terminated from her National Security Council position in late March 2025, the same day right-wing activist Laura Loomer publicly demanded the removal of a transgender “Biden holdover” from the NSC’s intelligence office.

Pence’s office has not issued any additional statements beyond his remarks expressing appreciation for Curlee’s comments about her experience working with him during the previous administration.
