Paxton: Talarico “Would Have Hard Time Winning in California
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said Democratic state Representative James Talarico's views are so radical he would struggle to win even in California, let alone Texas.
Speaking on “The Alex Marlow Show” on Saturday, Paxton criticized Talarico’s policy stances as fundamentally out of step with Texas voters, according to Breitbart News.
His views are so foreign that I would say he would have a hard time winning California, let alone Texas, once people realize what he actually believes and what he’s actually said, Paxton told the program.
The Attorney General’s remarks come as Talarico has emerged as a vocal progressive voice in the Texas legislature, representing a district in the Austin area. Paxton’s assessment suggests that once voters are fully informed about the Democratic representative’s actual positions and public statements, his political viability would be severely compromised even in traditionally liberal strongholds.
The comments reflect ongoing tensions in Texas politics between the state’s conservative leadership and progressive lawmakers concentrated primarily in urban centers like Austin, Houston, and Dallas. Texas has remained a Republican stronghold in statewide elections, though Democrats have sought to make inroads by focusing on rapidly growing metropolitan areas.
Paxton, who has been a leading conservative figure in Texas and has frequently challenged federal overreach and progressive policies, used the national platform to highlight what he views as the extreme nature of Talarico’s political ideology.
