Marvel’s She-Hulk Star Calls for New York Times Boycott

Actress Tatiana Maslany has launched a campaign urging boycott of the New York Times, alleging its coverage harms transgender individuals, Palestinians, and the black working class.

According to Breitbart News, Maslany used her Instagram account last week to share a video from Queerart featuring Palestinian activist Mohammed El-Kurd, transgender advocate Sabrina Imbler, and others calling for a reader boycott of the Times. The video was recorded at an April event in New York titled “The People vs. the NYTimes.”

The event organizers operated under the premise that the newspaper functions as a covert right-wing operation designed to mislead liberal readers about issues affecting transgenders, blacks, and Palestinians. Among the attendees were activists who characterize the situation in Gaza as “genocide,” despite demographic evidence showing the Palestinian population in Gaza has grown by millions over the past five decades.

This marks far from the first time Maslany has called for boycotts against entities she opposes. In September of last year, the actress urged her followers to boycott Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN after Disney-owned ABC temporarily suspended left-wing late-night host Jimmy Kimmel. Earlier this year, she pushed for a boycott of the film Scream 7 following the termination of actress Melissa Barrera over social media posts criticizing Israel.

The Canadian actress has built a reputation for delivering progressive political commentary through interviews and social media platforms. In July 2024, she advocated for government legislation that would limit parental authority over decisions affecting their children. Two years earlier, in 2022, she criticized the entertainment industry’s use of the term “strong female lead,” calling the descriptor reductive.

At the recent ATX TV Festival red carpet event for her new AppleTV series Maximum Pleasure, Maslany wore a button supporting Palestinian causes and used the platform to condemn Israel. She stated there is no ceasefire in Gaza or Palestine, and accused Israel of continuing bombardment while implicating the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom as complicit parties.

Maslany expressed frustration that media attention has shifted away from Gaza, insisting the public must continue focusing on the issue.
