Marco Rubio grilled over shoes during unhinged Dem questioning

California Representative Sara Jacobs drew criticism for questioning Secretary of State Marco Rubio about allegedly oversized shoes from Trump during a chaotic Foreign Affairs Committee hearing.

California Representative Sara Jacobs launched an unusual attack on Rubio during Wednesday’s session, accusing him of being unable to admit basic facts and citing a pair of shoes gifted to him by President Trump as supposed evidence, according to New York Post.

Jacobs told the nation’s top diplomat that he appeared to have trouble acknowledging reality, pointing to footwear Trump had reportedly given him earlier this year that she claimed were too large for him.

The Secretary of State appeared genuinely confused by the reference, responding that Trump had given him Florsheim shoes that fit properly and he had no understanding of what the congresswoman meant.

Trump had reportedly presented both Rubio and Vice President JD Vance with pairs of black dress shoes earlier in 2025, though photographs at the time suggested the footwear may have been oversized.

The California Democrat attempted to walk back her peculiar argument by complimenting Rubio’s appearance that day, telling him his shoes looked nice.

Rubio swiftly demolished the line of questioning, asking how she could even see his shoes from her position and questioning whether the committee had become a circus rather than a serious foreign policy forum.

The exchange came as part of a broader hearing in which Rubio also dismissed what he called absurd questions about President Trump’s sleeping patterns, defending the commander-in-chief’s energy levels and alertness during extended overseas travel.
