Leavitt, who holds the distinction of being the youngest White House press secretary in American history, began her leave in April after giving birth to her second child. A source with knowledge of the arrangements confirmed to Washington Examiner that while she is not yet officially back at full capacity, she has begun assisting the White House press office this week.
Karoline Leavitt’s official return behind the podium remains flexible, but could occur as soon as next week, the source indicated. She is scheduled to accompany President Donald Trump on Tuesday afternoon to Pennsylvania, where the president will deliver economic remarks at a Mack Trucks manufacturing facility.
During Trump’s second term, Leavitt quickly established herself as the president’s most reliable daily spokesperson. Throughout the spring and into her absence, a rotating lineup of senior administration figures has stepped in to conduct White House press briefings. Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator Mehmet Oz have all taken turns at the podium, though briefings have been held less frequently than during Leavitt’s active tenure.
The timing of the press secretary’s return carries significant weight for the administration. Trump currently faces an approval rating 17 points below water according to the RealClearPolitics polling aggregate, with public confidence in his economic management falling even further. White House spokesman Kush Desai issued a statement to Washington Examiner emphasizing that pundits and armchair experts have written President Trump off dozens of times, only to see him emerge stronger.
