The AI venture raised $12 billion from prominent institutional investors including Goldman Sachs, BlackRock and JPMorgan Chase. Bezos himself also participated in the funding round, serving as co-CEO alongside former Google executive Vik Bajaj.

Launched in November, Prometheus is developing AI tools designed to accelerate the engineering process for complex products such as jet engines and medical devices.

The venture aims to dramatically reduce development timelines that currently stretch across years or even decades. Bezos explained to Axios that requesting a jet engine with 10 percent more thrust from existing manufacturers could require a decade-long program due to engineering complexity rather than incompetence.

The startup is constructing a suite of tools to empower engineers to compress cycle times and accelerate the dream-build process by a factor of 10 or more, as New York Post reports.

Prometheus appears to operate without a public website but has already assembled a workforce of 150 employees. The firm maintains no direct connections to Amazon or Bezos’s aerospace venture Blue Origin.

The 62-year-old billionaire has increasingly devoted attention to AI initiatives since stepping down as Amazon CEO in 2021, though he continues serving as executive chairman of the e-commerce giant.

Bezos currently ranks as the world’s fourth-richest person with an estimated net worth of $260 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
