JD Vance Warns Israel Not to Attack ‘Their Only Powerful Ally’
Vice President JD Vance warned Israel not to jeopardize its relationship with the United States, its sole powerful ally, amid criticism of Israeli military operations in Lebanon.
According to Valeurs Actuelles, Vance emphasized during remarks from the White House that President Donald Trump stands as the only world leader currently demonstrating genuine sympathy toward the Israeli nation. The vice president made clear that if he were part of the Israeli government, he would think twice before attacking the one powerful ally Israel has left in the world.
Vance backed up his warning with concrete figures, noting that two-thirds of the defensive weapons systems that have protected Israel over the past three months came from American factories and were financed by American taxpayers. He stressed that those in Israel who view the U.S. president as their biggest problem need to open their eyes and recognize reality.
Lebanon Operations Draw Administration Criticism
The vice president also addressed Israeli military conduct in Lebanon with pointed language, stating that attacks against civilians in Beirut are not acceptable and that Israel must respect the ongoing peace process between Washington and Tehran.
The timing of Vance’s remarks could hardly be worse for Tel Aviv. Just hours before his statement, Israel announced its intention to maintain its occupation of southern Lebanon despite the existing peace agreement, publishing an expanded version of its buffer zone. The decision clearly did not escape notice in Washington.
Swiss Talks Postponed Indefinitely
As Vance issued his warnings from the White House, planned negotiations scheduled for Friday in Switzerland between the United States, Iran, Qatar, and Pakistan were quietly postponed to an unspecified date. The Swiss government confirmed the delay without providing a new timeline, stating only that Switzerland remains willing to facilitate these discussions and that preparatory work continues.
The postponement came just hours after Vance himself canceled his own planned trip to the Alpine nation, raising questions about the state of diplomatic efforts in the region.
