House Republicans Pass $70B Bill Funding ICE Through 2029
House Republicans passed the Secure America Act providing nearly $70 billion for immigration enforcement through Trump's term in a narrow 214-212 vote after Senate approval.
The Secure America Act cleared the House on Tuesday in a narrow 214-212 vote, according to Breitbart News, following Senate passage of the measure last Friday. The legislation authorizes three years of advance annual funding for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
Under the bill’s provisions, approximately $38.5 billion is allocated to ICE while roughly $22.6 billion goes to CBP. An additional $5 billion is earmarked for the Department of Homeland Security, with $3.5 billion dedicated specifically to border security infrastructure.
The path to passage was complicated by intraparty disputes. While Democrats initially obstructed funding for ICE and CBP, Republican lawmakers ultimately delayed the budget reconciliation bill as it approached completion. The legislation had originally been slated to pass both chambers by June 1, but controversial additions that were eventually removed prevented timely Senate advancement.
In a rare alignment, Rep. Kevin Kiley (I-CA) joined with all House Democrats in voting against the measure.
The vote follows congressional action in late April that funded key portions of DHS while excluding ICE and CBP, ending a 76-day shutdown of the agency.
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) celebrated the outcome in a social media post, praising House Republicans for their action. Despite Democrat efforts to shut down ICE and Border Patrol, he noted, Republicans have now fully funded these agencies through Trump’s entire second term to the tune of nearly $70 billion.
House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) emphasized the partisan divide, pointing out that not a single House Democrat voted to fund the ICE agents, Border Patrol agents, and law enforcement officers who secure the border and protect communities.
Rep. David Kustoff (R-TN) said the legislation will ensure federal law enforcement officers have the resources needed to keep communities safe through September 30, 2029.
The bill now heads to President Trump’s desk for his signature.
