Homan Promises Unprecedented ICE Agent Deployment to New York City

Trump's border czar Tom Homan warned New York will see an unprecedented surge of ICE agents after the state blocked cooperation with federal deportation efforts.

Tom Homan, serving as border czar under the Trump administration, appeared on Fox News on Monday where he directly addressed recent moves by New York officials to obstruct Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations, according to Breitbart News.

When asked whether New York’s pledge of zero cooperation with ICE would force federal authorities to back away from the state, Homan made clear the opposite would occur. He referenced a meeting he held months ago with Governor Kathy Hochul in which he warned of the consequences should she sign legislation restricting local law enforcement collaboration with immigration authorities.

Homan explained his approach centers on operational efficiency and safety. Under cooperative arrangements similar to those used in Minnesota, ICE agents can detain criminal aliens directly from county jails where they are already in custody. This method requires fewer agents and reduces community disruption.

But when state policies prevent jail-based transfers, federal teams must instead deploy into neighborhoods to locate suspects who are actively evading arrest. This not only requires larger tactical units for officer safety but also puts communities at greater risk, Homan stated.

He recounted his direct warning to Hochul before she signed the restrictive legislation. If cooperation was cut off, New York would see an unprecedented influx of ICE personnel conducting field operations rather than controlled jail transfers.

Hochul proceeded with the legislation despite the warning. Now Homan is making good on his promise. You’re going to see more ICE agents you’ve ever seen in New York City, he said during the Fox News interview.

The border czar confirmed that operational plans are already finalized and under review, though he declined to specify timing for security reasons. What is certain, he emphasized, is that New York will experience a significant escalation in federal immigration enforcement presence due to state policies that eliminated safer, more efficient arrest protocols.

The clash highlights the intensifying confrontation between the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement agenda and blue state sanctuary policies designed to shield illegal aliens from federal deportation.
