DOJ Probes China Billionaire’s Funding of U.S. Leftist Groups
The U.S. Department of Justice has launched a federal investigation into China-based billionaire Neville Roy Singham over suspected financial crimes involving $285 million funneled to leftist groups.
A Manhattan grand jury has issued subpoenas as part of the probe overseen by U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton for the Southern District of New York, one of the nation’s most influential jurisdictions for federal prosecutions. Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche authorized the investigation as the Trump administration intensifies efforts to combat fraud, money laundering, and financial crimes within the multibillion-dollar nonprofit sector.
Peter Schweizer, senior contributor at Breitbart News and president of the Government Accountability Institute, exposed Singham’s activities in his 2024 book Blood Money: Why the Powerful Turn a Blind Eye While China Kills Americans. Schweizer revealed that Singham and Alibaba co-founder Joseph Tsai provided support to radical groups weaponizing transgenderism against what they term the “capitalist order.”
Federal investigators are examining how Singham channeled $285 million from his Shanghai base through a Goldman Sachs philanthropy fund and two shell corporations, which then distributed the money to a network of nonprofit organizations, media operations, and activist groups promoting sectarian division, identity politics, and socialist politicians across America.
Sources familiar with the matter told Fox that investigators are scrutinizing the movement of funds within Singham’s leftist network and determining whether wire fraud, bank fraud, or money laundering occurred.
Singham maintains extensive connections to communist China and has been linked to its propaganda apparatus. The billionaire has funneled more than $100 million into radical leftist groups in the United States, including CODEPINK—co-founded by Singham’s wife, Jodie Evans—and the People’s Forum, whose co-executives are members of the Party for Socialism and Liberation.
A February review by the Breitbart News Foundation of corporate records uncovered closer ties than previously reported between Shanghai-based Star Stream, a consulting firm Singham founded, and Maku, a Chinese media company that the New York Times identified as specializing in Chinese communist propaganda.
Fox’s extensive investigative reporting uncovered video footage of a speech in which Singham endorsed a “new world order” and characterized the United States as a “fascist” nation. The investigation also revealed a 172-page report authored by Singham outlining his theory of change, which invokes 20th century Chinese communist leader Mao Zedong’s strategy to wage a “people’s war” to spread communism. Mao drew inspiration from communist theorists Karl Marx and Vladimir Lenin.
