The California Democratic Party faced backlash after posting on social media that Americans with certain political beliefs are banned from watching the World Cup.

In multiple posts on X, the California Democrats outlined specific political positions that would allegedly disqualify citizens from viewing soccer’s premier international tournament. The controversial declarations targeted Americans based on their voting history and policy positions.

The party’s account stated that anyone who has ever voted against immigration policies is prohibited from watching the matches. Another post declared that those who have spoken out against diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives are similarly banned from viewership.

A third post from the official Democratic account took aim at English language advocates, proclaiming that supporters of English-only policies forfeit their right to watch the World Cup.

The pronouncements triggered swift and harsh criticism from users across the platform, with many pointing out the hypocrisy and authoritarian tone of the posts.

Veteran conservative media analyst Dan Gainor responded simply with approval of being excluded under such terms.

Other critics highlighted the contradiction inherent in the party’s position. One commenter noted that every country participating in the World Cup maintains its own immigration enforcement policies and secure borders, calling the Democratic party’s stance hypocritical.

Additional responses ranged from outrage at the authoritarian implications to mockery of the account’s reasoning. Users questioned what connection exists between international soccer competition and illegal border crossings, with one observer questioning the intelligence behind the posts.

California is scheduled to host eight World Cup matches during the tournament, including Team USA’s opening game against Paraguay on Friday night.

The California Democratic Party has not clarified whether it intends to implement any actual screening process for attendees based on their political beliefs or voting records at stadium entrances.
