Boxer: Collins Voting 96% with Trump More Offensive than Graham

Former Democratic Senator Barbara Boxer said Maine voters should weigh Democratic challenger Graham Platner's personal controversies against Republican Susan Collins' 96 percent voting alignment with Trump.

Speaking on MSNBC’s “Ana Cabrera Reports” on Monday, Boxer, who represented California in the Senate, addressed the campaign of Graham Platner, the Democratic challenger seeking to unseat Collins in Maine’s Senate race, according to Breitbart News.

The former senator acknowledged that Platner’s controversies were troubling and expressed sympathy for his wife regarding the personal matters that have surfaced during the campaign. She characterized the situation as both extremely offensive and ugly.

However, Boxer pivoted to what she described as a broader question for Maine voters about what constitutes a more serious offense in the current political moment. She raised the issue of Collins’ voting record, noting that despite personally liking the Maine Republican, she had always been politically disappointed with her positions.

Boxer emphasized that Collins has voted alongside President Trump 96 percent of the time, framing this alignment as potentially more offensive to Maine voters than Platner’s personal controversies. She argued that major policy issues including healthcare, affordability, the economy, jobs, and threats to democracy hang in the balance.

The California Democrat characterized the choice facing Maine voters as a difficult one, contrasting what she termed the personal ugly side of the Democratic candidate against Collins’ near-universal alignment with the Trump administration’s agenda.

Boxer maintained that Democrats still have a chance in the Maine Senate race, suggesting voters will ultimately decide which issue carries greater weight when they cast their ballots.

Maine has traditionally been viewed as a blue-leaning state, though Collins has held her Senate seat for multiple terms despite the state’s overall Democratic tilt in recent presidential elections.
