Booker Slams Trump Immigration Enforcement as ‘Cruel
Senator Cory Booker criticized Trump's immigration policies as chaotic, cruel, and corrupt after visiting a New Jersey detention facility he said profits from detainees' suffering.
The New Jersey Democrat made the remarks on CNN’s “The Lead” following a visit to an immigration detention facility in his home state, according to Breitbart News.
When host Jake Tapper asked Booker about what he observed during his facility inspection, which he had previously described as a moral stain on the nation, the senator immediately pivoted to attack the facility’s private management structure.
Booker claimed the detention center is operated by a private corporation that allegedly donated heavily to Republican causes, describing it as a billion-dollar operation profiting from human suffering. He characterized the facility as a for-profit prison capitalizing on detainee hardship.
The senator outlined what he described as inadequate conditions inside the facility, including complaints about insufficient medical treatment and lack of proper gynecological care for female detainees facing serious health situations. Additional grievances about food quality and other conditions were also reported, Booker stated.
Emphasizing the personal circumstances of those detained, Booker noted that many individuals he spoke with had resided in the United States for decades rather than merely years, with American-born children and grandchildren. He stressed that a majority of detainees had not been convicted of any crimes.
The Democratic senator concluded his criticism by asserting that Trump’s immigration enforcement represents a moral abomination on multiple fronts, and suggested that Newark, New Jersey has become a focal point for these enforcement operations.
