Bill Maher: Democrats Are ‘Cowardly’ — ‘My Vote Is in Play’
Bill Maher announced his vote is "in play" after criticizing Democrats for embracing far-left positions, particularly pro-Palestinian activism, though he said he won't vote for Trump.
Television host and political commentator Bill Maher has publicly declared that his vote is now “in play” after accusing the Democratic Party of cowardice in the face of what he described as a radical takeover by far-left elements, according to Breitbart News.
Speaking on ABC’s “This Week” on Sunday, Maher, who hosts HBO’s “Real Time,” issued a stark warning about the direction of the Democratic Party, stating that new radical figures are emerging daily within its ranks.
The longtime liberal commentator revealed that he lost fans years ago for refusing to align himself with what he characterized as extreme positions on the left, while emphasizing that his views on the right have remained largely unchanged. Maher criticized what he sees as partisan tribalism preventing Americans from acknowledging troubling developments within their own political camps.
Drawing the Line at Pro-Intifada Sentiment
Maher pointed to Democratic support for pro-Palestinian activism as a breaking point, specifically referencing those who cheer for the Intifada. He made clear that such positions represent a boundary he will not cross.
When Jonathan Karl pressed him on whether his vote was genuinely up for grabs, Maher confirmed affirmatively, though he noted that former President Trump would not be receiving his support either.
Warning Against Communism in America
The HBO host rejected what he called talking points attempting to downplay socialist elements within the Democratic Party. He specifically cited the Democratic Socialists of America platform, stating he has read their positions directly and will not be told he is misinterpreting what he sees clearly documented.
Maher emphasized that when organizations advocate for the takeover of key industries, that constitutes communism by definition, not merely democratic socialism as proponents claim. He insisted that such terminology has actual meaning and cannot be dismissed through rhetorical sleight of hand.
The comments represent a significant moment for Maher, who has long been associated with liberal politics but has increasingly voiced concerns about progressive orthodoxy on issues ranging from free speech to gender ideology to foreign policy.
