Bardella Files Complaint Against Rapper Over Death Threats
National Rally President Jordan Bardella is filing a complaint against French rapper Soli over a music video depicting violent attacks on masked figures representing him and other right-wing politicians.
Jordan Bardella announced he will file a formal complaint against rapper Soli over the music video for his track “Un facho K.O” (“A fascist knocked out”), according to Brussels Signal. The video features staged violence against figures wearing masks of Bardella, Marine Le Pen, and Éric Zemmour.
The controversial clip shows three young men physically assaulting three individuals disguised as the prominent French right-wing politicians. All three masked figures are depicted bound and beaten on the ground in scenes that have drawn sharp condemnation from conservative circles.
“I am obviously filing a complaint for the explicit death threats made in this rap clip by an ‘artist’ lacking notoriety and talent,” Bardella stated. Political violence must stop, he added, vowing that his movement would no longer tolerate such provocations.
The video singles out Bardella’s character for particularly brutal treatment, showing the masked figure lying on a football pitch while receiving a forceful kick to the head. This so-called “penalty” kick mirrors an actual assault on French right-wing activist Quentin Deranque, who suffered such an attack during a confrontation with leftist militants in Lyon this past February.
Violent Lyrics Target Conservative Movement
Beyond the violent imagery, the song’s lyrics contain explicit threats against conservatives and right-wing figures. While not naming Bardella directly in every verse, Soli raps extensively about violence against those he labels fascists and racists.
“Kicks to the head of a fucking fascist, what a fine flavour. A good racist is a racist nailed into a coffin,” the rapper performs in one verse. Another line declares bluntly: “A good fascist is a dead fascist.”
The track also targets international conservative allies, specifically taking aim at those who support United States President Donald Trump. Soli labels French nationalists who back Trump as “collaborators” and suggests they would have been “traitors” during World War II.
Left Attempts to Reclaim National Symbols
Throughout the video, the French tricolor flag appears repeatedly as Soli attempts to reframe France’s national symbols away from what he characterizes as nationalist and fascist associations. The rapper declares: “Long live France, the land of liberty, equality, and fraternity, let’s reclaim this flag instead of leaving it to the fascists.”
This messaging aligns with a broader strategic debate within France’s political left about reclaiming patriotic imagery, as Brussels Signal reports. La France Insoumise Member of Parliament Antoine Léaument has championed this approach, arguing the left should not surrender national symbols to conservative movements.
In March 2025, Léaument delivered a presentation making the case for what he calls reappropriation of the French flag by leftist forces. He contended that “faced with the attempt by the right and far right to appropriate national symbols,” progressive movements should “defend the idea that these symbols belong to the revolutionary and progressive history of France.”
Léaument traces this argument to the French Revolution of 1789, when the tricolor flag first emerged as a symbol of republican ideals including liberty, equality, and fraternity.
Growing Pattern of Political Violence
The complaint comes amid heightened concerns about political violence in France ahead of the 2027 presidential elections. Bardella’s National Rally has consistently condemned what it characterizes as leftist aggression against conservative activists and politicians.
The reference to the Lyon attack on Deranque earlier this year underscores these concerns. That incident, which involved the same type of “penalty kick” depicted in Soli’s video, resulted in serious injuries and became a rallying point for French conservatives warning about escalating political violence.
The legal complaint represents Bardella’s stated intention to take a harder line against what he views as incitement to violence disguised as artistic expression. His announcement that they “will no longer let anything slide” signals a more aggressive approach to combating such provocations as the presidential campaign intensifies.
