Anti-ICE mob chants ‘kill yourself’ at agents in violent clash
Masked protesters chanted violent slogans at federal officers for a sixth night outside a Newark detention facility amid disputed claims of a detainee hunger strike.
Keffiyeh-clad protesters pounded drums while screaming vile chants at immigration agents guarding Newark’s Delaney Hall detention center, according to New York Post. The mob repeatedly shouted calls for officers to turn weapons on themselves, including chants of “Grab your guns and kill yourself” and “Every cop, every fed, shoot yourself in the head.”
Shocking footage captured hordes of demonstrators confronting more than a dozen federal agents, wielding bright orange traffic cones and constructing barricades from cement blocks to prevent traffic flow. The thugs locked arms across the roadway while officers repeatedly ordered them to disperse.
Video later showed an exasperated garbage truck driver pleading with protesters to allow him passage after they blocked his vehicle during the chaotic demonstration.
Hunger Strike Claims Disputed
Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin rejected allegations of a mass detainee strike on Wednesday, stating only a small number of detainees are refusing meals while demanding culturally specific ethnic food options.
Well, they can go back to their country, get whatever food they want, Mullin said during a cabinet meeting with President Donald Trump at the White House. He emphasized detainees receive adequate calories and noted the facility is not a luxury hotel.
The protests erupted over Memorial Day weekend following reports that hundreds of ICE detainees at the 1,000-bed facility initiated a hunger and labor strike. Approximately 300 detainees have reportedly refused meals since Friday.
Secretary Mullin confirmed Tuesday that all detainees receive three meals daily along with clean water, clothing, bedding, and toiletries. He sharply criticized New Jersey sanctuary politicians for demanding facility access, accusing them of seeking fundraising opportunities.
Violence Escalates as Democrats Join Demonstrations
Tensions have intensified since Friday, particularly after left-wing Garden State politicians including Governor Mikie Sherril joined demonstrators on Memorial Day.
The DHS chief condemned Democratic priorities for protesting a detention center housing serious criminals. New York Post reports he emphasized the facility holds rapists, child predators, murderers, and drug dealers.
Two protesters were arrested Tuesday evening for allegedly spraying federal immigration officers with an unidentified chemical substance, while three additional arrests occurred Wednesday night.
Demonstrators remained encamped outside the facility Thursday morning, pledging to maintain their presence until all detainees are released from custody.
