Issa: Fauci Should Face Perjury Charges for Cover-Up
Rep. Darrell Issa called for criminal investigations into Anthony Fauci after declassified documents accused him of misleading Congress about U.S. funding of gain-of-function research in Wuhan.
The documents, released by Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, accuse Fauci of deliberately misleading Congress about American funding of gain-of-function research at the Wuhan laboratory in China, according to Breitbart News.
Speaking on Fox Business Network’s “The Evening Edit,” Issa outlined what he views as two major criminal violations warranting prosecution: perjury before Congress and subsequent cover-up activities.
“I don’t think anyone has to debate the damage that the release of this virus caused in trillions of dollars, and you know, countless lives around the world,” Issa stated during the interview. He emphasized the need to move beyond debate and toward accountability through formal charges.
The California congressman went further, suggesting Fauci’s actions may have compounded the pandemic’s death toll by actively obstructing efforts to uncover the truth about the virus’s origins.
Cover-Up Worse Than Original Deception
Issa noted that in this case, the cover-up appears worse than the original lie, arguing that Fauci willfully impeded Congress and the public from accessing critical information that could have saved additional lives.
The congressman also ventured into the political ramifications of the revelations, suggesting that President Trump was both victimized and misled by the very health agencies supposedly advising him during the crisis.
According to Issa, had Americans understood the full truth about Fauci’s role and the manipulation surrounding pandemic policies at the time, President Trump would likely have secured an overwhelming electoral victory instead of facing defeat amid pandemic-era voting changes.
Gabbard’s Intelligence Release Triggers Renewed Scrutiny
The declassified documents from Gabbard’s office represent a significant development in the long-running controversy over American involvement in risky coronavirus research in China and subsequent attempts to obscure that connection.
Host Elizabeth MacDonald noted during the segment that lawmakers across the political spectrum acknowledge the policies implemented during the pandemic damaged millions of lives and careers, though accountability has remained elusive until now.
