Hagerty Confident Zero Taxpayer Dollars Going to Iran

Senator Bill Hagerty of Tennessee appeared Wednesday on Fox Business Network’s “Mornings with Maria” to address concerns about the Iran deal, emphasizing key distinctions between the current framework and previous agreements, according to Breitbart News.

When asked by host Cheryl Casone whether he would vote to ratify the deal, Hagerty made clear that the question itself reflects a misunderstanding of the agreement’s legal status.

The Tennessee Republican explained that lawmakers are awaiting full details expected to be released Friday, but stressed that no American taxpayer funds will flow to Tehran under the terms being discussed. He added that even Iran’s own frozen assets would remain inaccessible until the regime completes specific, verifiable steps toward denuclearization.

Hagerty drew a sharp contrast between the current approach and the Obama-era Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action. He argued that the previous administration essentially bribed the Iranian regime, providing funds that were then used to finance terrorism across the Middle East.

The current framework, by contrast, forces Iran to bear the costs of its terrorist activities, the senator noted. He pointed to Tehran’s dramatically weakened position, with its nuclear facilities devastated, naval assets destroyed, and air defenses eliminated.

Hagerty concluded by stating that the Strait of Hormuz has already begun reopening and predicted it would soon be accessible without tolls, marking a significant shift in regional dynamics.

The debate over the Iran agreement comes as the Trump administration seeks to establish a fundamentally different relationship with Tehran than the one pursued under previous leadership.
