Trump Backs Rep. Mike Collins for Georgia Senate Runoff
President Trump endorsed Representative Mike Collins in Georgia's Republican Senate runoff against Derek Dooley ahead of the June 16 election to challenge Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff.
The 45th and 47th president made the announcement on his 80th birthday, according to Breitbart News, praising Collins as a highly respected congressman who has supported Trump from the outset of his political movement. Collins, who represents Georgia’s 10th congressional district and owns a trucking company, now faces off against Derek Dooley, a former University of Tennessee football coach and first-time candidate backed by Georgia Governor Brian Kemp.
In a lengthy post on Truth Social, Trump described Collins as being strongly supported by MAGA patriots across Georgia and beyond, as well as many Republicans in both chambers of Congress. Mike is a WARRIOR and WINNER, the president declared.
Trump highlighted Collins’ legislative record, particularly his sponsorship of the Laken Riley Act, named after a nursing student in his district who was killed by an illegal alien released into the United States under the Biden administration. Collins has previously stated the legislation has helped remove more than 20,000 criminal illegal aliens from American streets.
The president outlined an extensive policy agenda he expects Collins to advance in the Senate, including economic growth, tax and regulatory cuts, promotion of American manufacturing, energy dominance, military and veteran support, election integrity, border security, law and order, and Second Amendment protections.
Trump also launched a blistering attack on the Democratic incumbent, Senator Jon Ossoff, who was first elected in 2021 and has been characterized as the most vulnerable Democrat seeking reelection. The president accused Ossoff of attempting to raise taxes by over four trillion dollars and voting against all Republican tax cuts, including proposals for no tax on tips, Social Security benefits, and overtime pay.
According to the president’s statement, Ossoff has voted for men competing in women’s sports, transgender initiatives, open borders, and record high taxes that damaged the American economy under the Biden administration. Trump also accused the Democratic senator of supporting the entry of 11,888 murderers into the country unchecked and unvetted.
The president contrasted his own border security record with Ossoff’s positions, stating that he created the strongest border in American history with Collins’ backing. Trump further accused Ossoff of wanting to abolish borders, stop deporting criminal illegal aliens, and supporting soft-on-crime policies like cashless bail. He also claimed the senator voted against voter identification requirements and proof of citizenship while favoring allowing illegal aliens to vote in elections.
Trump recalled defeating Ossoff years earlier in a congressional race where his endorsement turned a losing campaign into an easy victory, predicting the same outcome this time around.
Addressing Collins’ Republican opponent, Trump stated he does not know Dooley, though he seems like a nice person. However, the president noted that Dooley has lived outside Georgia for most of his life, did not vote in 2020 or 2016, and said Trump lost Georgia in 2020 when the facts have now proven otherwise.
Trump concluded by describing Collins as a true friend, fighter, and warrior who has been with the movement from the beginning, offering his complete and total endorsement. He contrasted Collins with what he called the lightweight and totally ineffective radical left loser Ossoff, who he said has failed Georgia badly.
The president’s statement also touched on broader achievements, including what he described as the strongest border, best stock market, and most successful period in American history. He referenced Iran’s agreement to never possess nuclear weapons and the anticipated reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, which he said would cause gas prices to plummet.
Collins responded enthusiastically to the endorsement on social media, telling followers he was having a great Sunday.
