Trump praises Apache pilots’ bravery after Iranian drone strike: ‘A miracle’
President Trump revealed that two US Army Apache pilots survived after an Iranian attack drone became lodged between them in their cockpit but failed to detonate, allowing them to crash-land in the sea.
According to New York Post, the commander in chief revealed Wednesday that the explosive-laden drone had become lodged directly between the two pilots inside the helicopter’s cockpit while the aircraft was flying at low altitude over enemy terrain. The drone remained fully aflame but critically failed to detonate despite the intended lethal design.
Speaking through Fox News correspondent Trey Yingst, Trump characterized the incident as a miracle, noting the imminent danger facing both aviators throughout the ordeal.
The president explained that the primary challenge became safely bringing down the helicopter with the unexploded drone wedged inside the gunship, all while the cockpit filled with intense heat. The two pilots successfully maneuvered the burning aircraft into the sea despite these extreme conditions.
Following the controlled crash of the $40 million Apache into the water, the crew was rescued by an unmanned sea drone in what marks the first such rescue operation in United States military history.
The incident underscores both the escalating Iranian threat to American forces operating in the region and the exceptional training and composure demonstrated by US Army aviation personnel under combat conditions.
