The decision is justified by “discriminatory treatment by Canada against American products” and concerns bilateral disputes in the automotive industry, dairy products, and alcoholic beverages.
The order, which was signed on Monday, will take effect within one month and will be applied to a broad range of products. Among the goods that will be subject to the tariff are wines, dairy products, cement, and hockey equipment, while the new customs charge also covers products imported into the United States under the trilateral free trade agreement between the US, Canada, and Mexico.
