19-Year-Old Foreigner Arrested at Eleftherios Venizelos with 4,650 Cigarette Packs and Illegal Tobacco

At Athens International Airport, authorities arrested a 19-year-old foreign national arriving from Egypt after discovering nearly 5,000 smuggled cigarette packs and over 12 kilos of untaxed tobacco in his luggage.

The arrest was made by officers of the Security Department of the Athens International Airport Policing Directorate. The young man was identified upon his arrival on a flight from Egypt, in the arrivals area of Athens International Airport. During the inspection of his luggage, the officers discovered 4,650 packs of cigarettes, as well as 12 plastic packages containing 12 kilograms and 300 grams of tobacco, all without the required excise tax stamp.

With the case file prepared against him, the detainee was handed over to the competent Prosecutor.
