11 accused to face trial for murder of teen Thomas at Crépol
French prosecutors are seeking to try eleven suspects for murder in connection with the 2023 fatal stabbing of 16-year-old Thomas Perotto during a village dance in Crépol, Drôme.
The prosecutor’s office in Valence has filed its final submissions requesting that the accused face charges including voluntary homicide, attempted voluntary homicide, and violence, according to Valeurs Actuelles. The case stems from a violent attack that shocked France in November 2023.
Thomas Perotto, a rugby player with the Rugby Club of Romans-Péage, was killed during a winter ball held in the village hall of Crépol, a small community of approximately 500 residents in the Drôme region. On the night of November 18 to 19, 2023, a group of young men from the Romans-sur-Isère urban area descended on the village event and launched a violent assault on attendees.
The teenager received a fatal stab wound during the attack. His death sent shockwaves through the region and sparked national outrage. Thousands attended his funeral in the aftermath of the killing.
According to documents reviewed by French media, prosecutors maintain that all eleven suspects participated in the violent expedition and can therefore be held criminally responsible for Thomas’s death, even though the precise identity of the individual who delivered the fatal knife blow remains a point of contention in the investigation.
Fourteen individuals were originally placed under formal investigation in the case. The prosecutor’s final submissions now recommend that eleven of them proceed to trial before a juvenile criminal court.
