When Anti-Racists Make Skin Color the Ticket to Entry

A spokesman for a far-left anti-AfD alliance in Berlin has issued a series of extraordinary demands against the city’s Christian Democratic Union following criticism of a racially segregated public swimming pool, according to Junge Freiheit.

Suraj Mailitafi, who identifies as black and serves as spokesman for the “Widersetzen” (Resist) anti-AfD coalition, has called for the CDU to publicly apologize, make a mandatory donation of 1,131,200 euros to a black advocacy organization, and subject its politicians to compulsory anti-racism training sessions.

The demands follow remarks by CDU district councilor Aileen Weibeler, who criticized the “Volksbad” swimming facility in front of Berlin’s Volksbühne theater for barring white visitors from the pool for six hours every Friday. The racially exclusive policy has sparked debate across the German capital about reverse discrimination and so-called safe spaces.

Mailitafi has demanded that Weibeler issue a public apology for her criticism. He further insists the Berlin CDU must donate the curiously precise sum of 1,131,200 euros to “Each One Teach One,” a black lobbying organization. Additionally, he wants CDU politicians to attend mandatory anti-racism training once per month.

The activist also called for what he termed “clear measures” against alleged racial profiling and anti-black racism within the Berlin Police Department. Mailitafi did not explain how he arrived at the specific million-euro figure he is demanding.

Defending his ultimatum, Mailitafi claimed that Weibeler had “opened a can of worms” with her video criticism and created a social climate in which black people and their safe spaces become targets.

The controversy underscores growing tensions in Germany over identity politics and racially segregated public spaces, with conservatives arguing that such policies represent the very discrimination they claim to oppose.
