Trump Warns Oman Not to Interfere With Military Operations
President Trump threatened military action against Oman if it interferes with Strait of Hormuz operations as a 60-day ceasefire with Iran expired and tensions escalate over the strategic waterway.
According to Emily Hallas writing in Washington Examiner, Trump’s threat comes at a critical juncture as the temporary truce between Washington and Tehran ended Monday, raising fresh concerns about access to the strategic waterway that sits between Iranian and Omani territory.
Iran has attempted to exert control over the Strait of Hormuz since hostilities erupted in February, creating uncertainty for global energy markets given that a substantial portion of the world’s oil supply transits through the narrow passage connecting the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman.
Speaking with Trey Yingst on Fox & Friends, Trump projected confidence in the ongoing confrontation, stating he is in “no hurry” to conclude the conflict while threatening to bomb the s*** out of Oman if the country “gets in the way” regarding Strait of Hormuz operations.
The president dismissed any suggestion that November’s midterm elections would influence his strategic calculus on the war, insisting the domestic political calendar have nothing to do with my thinking on military matters.
Trump also rejected concerns about depleted American weapons stockpiles nearly six months into the conflict, asserting that what Washington has expended represents only a fraction of available resources. “What we’ve used is peanuts,” he stated. “We have a lot of mid-level weapons.”
Regarding negotiations with Iranian military leadership, the president indicated no fixed timeline for resolution, remarking: “I have no time schedule. They’re good poker players, but they’re dying.”
The threats toward Oman arrived on the same day Tehran announced progress in talks with Gulf States on establishing shipping transit protocols through the Strait of Hormuz.
Esmail Baghaei, spokesman for Iran’s Foreign Affairs ministry, told reporters in Tehran that while discussions with Oman had proceeded slowly, “an understanding has been reached regarding the map of the transit route.” He indicated both nations are working to finalize details for a joint statement, describing the framework as “the map plus a joint statement.”
Trump has sought to undermine the Iran-Oman negotiations, announcing Friday his intention to declare the strait United States territory “pretty soon.”
The conflict began February 28 when American and Israeli forces conducted coordinated strikes against Iran, citing intelligence indicating Tehran’s pursuit of nuclear weapons capabilities. While the war has evolved into a geopolitical struggle over energy infrastructure, Trump reiterated Monday morning his fundamental objective remains preventing Iranian nuclear weapons development.
“The number one Goal is, and always will be, that Iran cannot have, in any way, shape, or form, a Nuclear Weapon,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP.”
