“Anyone who disagrees can leave,” says Trump, as the anti-illegal immigration policy he is implementing has received a clear mandate from the American people to be enforced.

The current head of the American Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Melani Krause, announced her resignation due to her disagreement with the decision to share citizens’ tax data with federal immigration authorities.

Krause becomes the third senior official of the IRS to leave the agency within the current year. According to reports, her decision is directly related to the agreement recently signed by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.

This agreement allows immigration authorities access to tax records to identify illegal immigrants.

The decision was made despite objections from IRS lawyers that the regulation may violate federal privacy laws. Sources report that Krause had already been marginalized by Treasury Department officials in recent weeks ahead of the promotion of this particular agreement.

Her predecessor, Doug O’Donnell, had resigned in February after refusing to sign a similar agreement. The last permanent head of the agency approved by the Senate, Danny Werfel, resigned on the first day of the Trump presidency.

Krause is expected to enter a deferred resignation program currently offered by the agency. A Treasury Department spokesperson confirmed her departure, highlighting that she led the IRS through a period of significant changes, without directly addressing the dispute over the data.

At the same time, the agency is proceeding with extensive staff cuts as part of broader changes in public administration.
