Tlaib Continues to Spread Falsehoods About Michael Brown Death
Michigan Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib falsely claimed Michael Brown was murdered by police, contradicting federal investigations that found the officer acted in self-defense.
On Friday evening, Tlaib took to social media to post inflammatory statements marking the anniversary of Brown’s death, declaring that the teenager should still be with us today and claiming he was murdered by a police officer. The Democratic representative went on to frame the incident as evidence of white supremacy and systemic police violence.
The congresswoman’s account directly contradicts the findings of multiple official investigations, including a comprehensive federal probe conducted under the Obama administration’s Department of Justice.
According to the federal investigation, Brown died after physically attacking Officer Darren Wilson following a robbery at a local convenience store in Ferguson, Missouri, where he had stolen cigars and assaulted a clerk. Multiple witnesses, including several black residents of Ferguson, testified that Wilson acted in self-defense when Brown charged at him during their confrontation.
The Justice Department report highlighted testimony from Witness 102, identified as a 27-year-old biracial male who witnessed the entire incident. This witness stated that Brown was “wrestling” through Wilson’s patrol car window and later “charged” at the officer. The witness concluded that Wilson’s life was in jeopardy.
Another witness, a 74-year-old black male identified as Witness 108, told federal investigators that the shooting was justified and that Wilson “did what he had to do.” This witness expressed reluctance to come forward due to fear of community backlash but maintained that the officer was “in the right.”
The federal investigation deemed both testimonies credible and consistent with physical and forensic evidence gathered at the scene.
Tlaib’s latest social media post represents a continuation of what critics describe as a pattern of spreading misinformation on racially charged issues. Her claims appear designed to fuel racial tensions rather than promote the harmony she ostensibly advocates, framing a legally justified use of force as racially motivated murder.
