Freedom and Direct Democracy (Svoboda a přímá demokracie, SPD) was founded in 2015 by Tomio Okamura. The party advocates direct democratic mechanisms such as referendums, combined with strict anti-immigration and anti-Islam positions. It opposes euro adoption, EU federalism, and mandatory refugee quotas. SPD typically polls between five and ten percent in Czech elections and sits in the Europe of Sovereign Nations group in the European Parliament.

Tomio Okamura is of Japanese-Czech heritage, born in Tokyo in 1973. A businessman and former travel entrepreneur, he entered politics as a Senate candidate before founding SPD.
