SDS (Slovenia)
About
The Slovenian Democratic Party (SDS) is Slovenia's main conservative party, founded in its current form under the leadership of Janez Janša. It advocates free-market economics, national sovereignty, traditional social values, and firm anchoring in NATO and the EU. The party has led several Slovenian governments but lost the 2022 elections to Robert Golob's Freedom Movement and now sits in opposition.
Wikipedia ↗Leadership
Janez Janša has dominated Slovenian conservative politics for over three decades. Twice Prime Minister and a polarizing national figure, he was imprisoned in 1988 for exposing Yugoslav army secrets, making him a symbol of Slovenia's democratic transition. Born in 1958, his tenure has drawn both admiration for his anti-communist history and criticism over media pressure and partisan judicial controversies.
