About

Nacionālā apvienība (National Alliance, NA) was formed in 2011 through a merger of the For Fatherland and Freedom/LNNK party with the All for Latvia! movement. It is Latvia's principal national-conservative party, advocating Latvian language primacy, strong national defense, and a firm stance on Latvia's Russian-speaking minority issues. The party has been a junior coalition partner in multiple Latvian governments and consistently wins representation in the Saeima.

A lawyer by training, he has been a consistent advocate for Latvian national interests, strict citizenship laws for descendants of Soviet-era settlers, and a hawkish stance on Russia — a position that has proven prescient following Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
