Sudanese Male Arrested After Attempted Beheading in Belfast
A Sudanese man in his 30s was arrested for attempted murder after a knife attack in Belfast left a victim with serious injuries to his face, neck and back.
The Police Service of Northern Ireland initially identified the suspect as a man in his 30s believed to be Somalian, but later issued a correction confirming he is Sudanese. The rectification came after what authorities described as a fast-time investigation into Monday night’s savage assault on Kinnaird Avenue in north Belfast.
Officers were called to the scene at approximately 22:30 hours where they found a man in his 40s suffering what police termed significant injuries to his face, neck and back. The victim was rushed to hospital where he remains in a serious condition. Police have noted the presence of inaccurate online posts regarding the victim’s status but provided no further details.
The PSNI declared a critical incident in response to the attack. A force spokesman confirmed that officers arrived on scene within minutes and praised members of the public who intervened to prevent further harm to the victim.

Witnesses can be heard screaming at the attacker to stop, with one bystander shouting warnings that the assailant was attempting to decapitate his victim. Within moments, a member of the public armed with an Irish hurling stick rushed forward and struck the knifeman around the head before a police officer arrived on scene. A knife was reportedly recovered at the location.
The PSNI’s swift disclosure of the suspect’s nationality follows calls from Reform UK leader Nigel Farage for complete transparency from authorities. Farage has previously criticized English police forces for what he characterizes as secrecy that creates information vacuums and fuels public unrest.
