Tulsi Gabbard submitted her resignation as Director of National Intelligence to President Donald Trump during their meeting in the Oval Office on Friday. Her last day in the position will be June 30.

In her resignation letter, exclusively obtained by Fox News Digital, Gabbard explains that her decision is due to her husband Abraham’s recent diagnosis with an extremely rare form of bone cancer. Abraham is facing significant challenges in the coming weeks and months, she states.

“Unfortunately, I must tender my resignation, effective June 30, 2026,” she writes. “My husband, Abraham, was recently diagnosed with an extremely rare form of bone cancer. At this time, I must step away from public service to stand by him and fully support him in this battle.”

Gabbard, who served in the role for about a year and a half, expresses deep gratitude to President Trump for the trust he placed in her. She notes that Abraham has stood by her throughout their 11 years of marriage, both during her deployment in East Africa on a Special Forces mission and throughout her political campaigns and current tenure.

“I cannot in good conscience ask him to face this trial alone while I continue in this demanding and time-consuming position,” she adds.

Despite her departure, Gabbard emphasizes that she was able to advance significant changes within the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, focusing on transparency and restoring the integrity of the intelligence community. She commits to ensuring a smooth transition so there is no disruption in operations.

Later Friday afternoon, she posted her resignation letter on X, noting that it was a “deep honor” to serve the American people as Director of National Intelligence.
