A poll conducted this week by CSA for Le Journal du Dimanche revealed that 72 per cent of the French public view crime as out of control, signalling profound anxiety about the erosion of state authority across the country.

The sentiment cuts across political lines, though with varying intensity. Centre-right Républicains supporters registered the highest concern at 92 per cent, followed by National Rally backers at 83 per cent. Even among President Emmanuel Macron’s neo-liberal coalition, 62 per cent share the view that law and order has collapsed.

Left-wing voters also expressed majority concern at 55 per cent overall. Among supporters of Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s far-left La France Insoumise party, 58 per cent agreed crime is beyond control, while 51 per cent of Socialist voters held the same position.

Only Green Party supporters fell below majority levels, with just 45 per cent sharing concerns about France sliding towards a Mexican-style scenario where criminal elements overpower state institutions.

The survey uncovered notable demographic divisions. Women reported higher anxiety than men, at 76 per cent versus 69 per cent respectively, potentially reflecting heightened concerns over sexual assault and related crimes.

Age emerged as another significant factor. Among those over 50, 76 per cent believe control has been lost, compared to 71 per cent of respondents aged 25 to 44 and only 55 per cent of those aged 18 to 24.

The polling data arrived just ahead of the second consecutive year of violent riots, looting, and chaos that erupted Saturday night following Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League Final victory over London’s Arsenal.

Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez confirmed Sunday morning that 780 arrests were made nationwide during the violent celebrations, marking a 30 per cent increase from last year’s riots following the club’s win over Milan in the same competition, as Breitbart News reports.

National Rally leader Jordan Bardella condemned the deteriorating security situation Sunday morning, stating that in Paris, the Île-de-France region, and throughout the country, violence and vandalism are multiplying. He noted that groups systematically target public property, businesses, and law enforcement with the same destructive pattern.

Bardella expressed full support for police, gendarmes, and firefighters protecting the nation against what he described as unbearable atmospheric violence, insisting the authority of the state must be upheld everywhere.

Former Interior Minister and current presidential candidate Bruno Retailleau drew a direct connection between the crisis and immigration policy. He argued that the authority crisis cannot be resolved without addressing the migratory disorders that have spent years fueling the erosion of respect for law and weakening the republican pact.

Retailleau declared that France should not have to endure such violence with every trophy, emphasizing that order is a decision.
