Monty Python Star John Cleese Backs British Right-Wing Party
British comedian John Cleese endorsed Rupert Lowe's migration-critical Restore Britain party, calling himself a "culturalist" rather than racist and criticizing practices like stoning and genital mutilation.
According to Junge Freiheit, Cleese took to X to defend his support for the fledgling political movement, declaring that he trusts Lowe more than other leaders currently on the British political scene. In response to what he described as ritual criticism, the Monty Python star made a clear distinction in his own position.
I am not a racist, I am a culturalist, Cleese wrote, explaining that he believes some cultures are superior to others and that he prefers those which do not advocate stoning, pederasty, wife beating, female genital mutilation, and the beheading of opponents.
Lowe, a Member of Parliament, thanked Cleese for his backing and praised him for having the courage to speak publicly on contentious issues. The MP highlighted Cleese’s support for the party’s inquiry into grooming gangs operating across Britain, calling it welcome.
History of Political Incorrectness
This is not the first time Cleese, famous for his roles in Monty Python films such as “Life of Brian” and the sitcom “Fawlty Towers”, has spoken out against contemporary political trends. In 2024, he warned against political correctness, arguing that people who attempt to make others good through compulsive legislation always end up with something far worse than what they started with. He specifically cited science as suffering under the influence of wokism.
Restore Britain’s Rapid Rise
Restore Britain began in 2025 as a cross-party grassroots movement before transforming into a registered political party this past February. Lowe founded the party after being expelled from Reform UK following his questioning of Nigel Farage’s suitability as a potential head of government.
In the recent by-election in the northern English constituency of Makerfield, Restore Britain candidate Rebecca Shepherd secured third place with 6.8 percent of the vote. Nationally, polling firm YouGov places the party at four percent support.
Hardline Policy Platform
The party has outlined an ambitious and controversial policy agenda. Among its goals is forcing or deporting at least 1.8 million migrants within three years, including all illegal immigrants. Restore Britain also seeks to abolish hate speech laws, introduce the lowest corporate tax rate in Europe, and reinstate the death penalty.
Despite the party’s hardline migration stance, Lowe has recently distanced himself from some supporters and members who advocate for even more radical policies. Speaking to American podcaster Bret Weinstein, he stated that he despises far-right ethnonationalists and neo-Nazis, insisting that their ideologies have never inspired him.
