Mexican Cartel Boss Places Bounty on U.S. Agents, Consulate Shuts Down
A Mexican cartel leader offered a $50,000 bounty on U.S. agents and Mexican military personnel, prompting the U.S. Embassy to evacuate all American personnel from Michoacan State.
Jose “El Abuelo” Farias convened a meeting this week in El Limoncito, a rural area in the Mexican state of Michoacan, where he arrived alongside Michoacan State Police Commander Ernesto “El Tata” Cervantes to announce the bounty to his operatives and criminal allies. Law enforcement sources told Breitbart News that El Abuelo is seeking revenge for the recent capture of Alfonso “Poncho La Quiringa” Fernandez Magallanes, a senior leader within the terrorist organization Carteles Unidos.
The cartel boss also placed a bounty on Mexican military forces attempting to apprehend him, as well as on those responsible for leaking information about his residential address and daily routines. Breitbart News Foundation had exclusively published El Abuelo’s home address in July, revealing his primary residence to be on the 300 block of Carlos Salazar Street in Tepalcatepec, Michoacan. That investigation also disclosed exclusive details about his daily patterns, including his habit of eating breakfast at a specific restaurant between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. Following the publication, El Abuelo was compelled to alter his routine and temporarily abandon his residence.
El Abuelo has a documented history of presenting himself as a vigilante fighting drug cartels while simultaneously operating his own criminal enterprise, as Breitbart News reports. Despite previous arrests in Mexico, a Mexican judge ordered his release shortly thereafter. Since then, his terrorist organization has been connected to the deployment of land mines, weaponized explosive drones, and mass killings that have claimed innocent lives as the group consolidates territorial control.
The U.S. Embassy in Mexico responded to the threats by announcing the suspension of all U.S. Government activities in Michoacan State. Washington immediately withdrew all agricultural inspectors stationed in Michoacan who oversee avocados and other produce destined for American markets.
On Wednesday afternoon, Michoacan Governor Alfredo Ramirez Bedolla released a video statement asserting that his police forces were working to guarantee public safety in the region and address concerns raised by the U.S. Government.
