Mass. Dem Governor Shields Criminal Migrants, Abandons Youth
Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey's policies have cost over one billion dollars on illegal migrants while releasing convicted criminals onto streets without cooperating with ICE deportation efforts.
Governor Healey has already burned through more than one billion dollars on illegal migrants, even as other states across the nation—including traditionally blue jurisdictions—have begun scaling back their extravagant spending on illegals.
As Breitbart News reports, Healey’s so-called “emergency” shelter program alone has surpassed the one billion-dollar threshold for fiscal year 2025. The program was originally designed to provide temporary housing assistance to Massachusetts families in genuine need. Instead, it has diverted hundreds of millions of dollars to provide free accommodation for illegal migrants while Bay State citizens go without.
Healey continues to pursue a reckless criminal justice agenda by refusing to cooperate with ICE in deporting dangerous convicted felons who entered the country illegally. State authorities are releasing these criminals en masse onto Massachusetts streets on a daily basis.
In one notable case, ICE took custody of a felon in Worcester—without any assistance from state officials—who had been arrested for assault with a dangerous weapon but was released by state authorities regardless.
ICE arrested Dhaval Amratbhai Patel, an illegal alien from India, on May 18 after he attacked a man with a baseball bat during an argument.
Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis condemned the release, stating that sanctuary politicians released him from jail after his arrest for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. Bis emphasized that sanctuary politicians must stop choosing to release criminals into communities and instead work with DHS to remove criminals from the country. By refusing to cooperate with ICE law enforcement, sanctuary politicians are putting the safety of their citizens at risk.
Also in May, ICE reported arresting gang members, drug traffickers, and other violent criminal illegals in the sanctuary state, all without assistance from state or local authorities.
During one of its first major operations in Massachusetts back in October, ICE arrested more than 1,400 criminal illegals in the Bay State.
Despite this documented record, Healey continues to claim that ICE only arrests average, non-violent migrants in her state.
Meanwhile, under her administration, the state has become engulfed in multi-million-dollar fraud schemes that Healey has largely ignored.
Just in the past year, several massive fraud schemes have been uncovered, including the loss of $12 million in public benefits, $7 million in SNAP fraud, $1 million in pandemic waste, $1 million in MassHealth and Social Security fraud, and a Massachusetts Department of Transportation overtime and payroll fraud scheme expected to total millions, the state GOP recently noted.
Massachusetts Republican Party Chairwoman Amy Carnevale said in a May 26 press release that it is beyond irresponsible that in seven instances of fraud, totaling over $25 million in taxpayer dollars, Governor Healey has been largely silent.
Furthermore, despite massive Medicaid fraud discovered by federal authorities, Healey dismissed the reports and insisted that MassHealth has strong program integrity.
Tragically, Healey’s catastrophic failures are transforming Massachusetts into a state that people are fleeing rather than moving to.
Most recently, Massachusetts lost a net 33,340 residents to other states between July 2024 and July 2025. A distressing percentage of those departing are young people. A CBS report from April revealed that more than a quarter of young people in Greater Boston plan to pack up and move in the near future.
Carnevale said in a May 27 press release that Massachusetts is disproportionately losing young adults, higher earners, and skilled workers—the exact talent that powers the innovation economy. Businesses are following the same pattern and relocating out of state. The Healey administration’s refusal to confront these failures is accelerating talent and revenue loss, threatening Massachusetts’ long-term competitiveness.
Meanwhile, Boston Republican Mike Minogue held a press conference to announce that he had secured the 16,669 signatures required to run for Governor against Healey. Minogue says his signature total represents more signatures than any other candidate in the race to date.
Minogue declared in his announcement that it’s time for a new kind of governor, noting that people across Massachusetts are ready for change. The thousands of people who have joined the team want a new kind of governor to make Massachusetts the best place to live, work, and raise a family.
