Iran Diplomatic Spokesperson: No Meeting Planned with the US
Iran’s diplomat Esmail Baghaei dismisses talks of a direct US-Iran meeting, affirming Tehran will communicate only via Pakistani mediators as both sides continue indirect negotiations amid ongoing diplomatic uncertainty.
Iran’s diplomatic spokesperson Esmail Baghaei has put an end to expectations of an immediate meeting between Iran and the United States. In a post on X, he emphasized that no such meeting is currently planned.
According to him, Tehran’s positions will be communicated to the American side exclusively through Pakistani intermediaries. This statement comes as Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has already arrived in Islamabad for talks with top Pakistani officials.
Indirect talks had begun about two weeks ago but were abruptly halted after just fifteen hours. Since then, the U.S. has unilaterally extended the ceasefire until further notice, while the situation remains fluid.
American Envoys to Pakistan
On the Washington side, White House spokeswoman Karoline Levitt had earlier announced that two close associates of President Donald Trump – Steve Whitkoff and Jared Kushner – are scheduled to travel to Pakistan today. Their goal, according to her, is to hold talks with Iranian representatives, with the initiative attributed to Tehran.
U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance, who had led the American delegation in previous contacts, is not expected to participate this time. However, as Levitt clarified, the possibility of a change remains open if progress is made.
Araghchi, after his stay in Islamabad, plans to continue his tour with Oman and Russia as his next stops.
So far, both sides seem to prefer indirect communication through third parties, leaving open the possibility of developments in the coming days.
