Iran Behind Campaign of Threats Against Denmark
Denmark's intelligence service warns Iran increasingly threatens Israeli and Jewish interests on Danish soil as part of a broader pattern of Iranian state-sponsored activity.
The Danish Security and Intelligence Service, known as PET, issued the stark warning on Friday, according to The European Conservative, marking a significant shift in the country’s threat assessment landscape.
Finn Borch Andersen, head of PET, announced that state actors have become central to Denmark’s terror threat picture over the past year. He specifically identified Iran as posing dangers to Israeli and Jewish interests, as well as to certain Iranian dissidents living in Europe, including those residing in Denmark.
The intelligence chief emphasized that the evolving threat assessment reflects broader global developments, suggesting that Denmark is not facing an isolated phenomenon but rather part of a wider pattern of Iranian state-sponsored activity across the Western world.
PET’s assessment indicates that the Iranian regime is actively pursuing targets beyond its borders, with the Jewish and Israeli community in Denmark among those at heightened risk. Iranian dissidents who have sought refuge in European countries, including Denmark, also face potential danger from Tehran’s agents.
The warning comes as European nations grapple with growing evidence of Iranian intelligence operations on their territory. Denmark joins other Western countries in publicly acknowledging the escalating security challenge posed by the Islamic Republic’s extraterritorial activities.
Intelligence officials have noted that Iran’s approach represents a shift from traditional non-state terror threats to state-directed operations, requiring different security responses and international cooperation frameworks.
