According to the announcement by the Hellenic Police (ΕΛ.ΑΣ.), officers from the Drug Enforcement Department of the Ioannina Division for Crime Detection and Investigation were conducting targeted checks to prevent drug trafficking. When they identified a private car with foreign license plates, they attempted to stop it. However, the driver did not comply with the stop signals. Instead, he accelerated, performed dangerous maneuvers, and even drove on the opposite lane of traffic.

The police pursued him and managed to immobilize the vehicle shortly after. Inside, they found 28 packages of raw cannabis, weighing a total of 167 kilograms and 200 grams. The car was confiscated, and it was discovered that it bore fake license plates. The foreign national lacked the necessary documents for legal residence in the country.

A case has been filed against him for drug trafficking, dangerous driving, forgery, and violations of immigration laws. The arrested individual is scheduled to be brought before the Ioannina First Instance Prosecutor’s Office.

The operation is part of broader efforts by the authorities to curb drug trafficking through the road corridors of Epirus.
