Green Council Plots Mass Resistance to Migrant Raids
A Green Party-led London council has approved plans to resist immigration enforcement operations, drawing Conservative criticism over its ties to activist groups whose social media shows violent imagery.
Lewisham Council, under Mayor Liam Shrivasta, has formally voted to withhold cooperation from Home Office operations targeting illegal migrants, according to Peter Stevens writing in GB News. The council, where Green Party councillors outnumber Labour by nearly three to one, passed a motion prohibiting the use of council resources or public funds to assist immigration raids.
The measure establishes what officials described as a “clear firewall” between local government operations and federal immigration enforcement. Council leadership has also committed to collaborating with Lewisham Anti-Raids, an activist organisation that directly confronts Home Office vehicles transporting migrants to detention facilities.
The activist group’s social media presence has raised alarm among Conservative politicians. Its Instagram account features artwork depicting a Home Office van with shattered windows engulfed in flames.
Conservatives Demand Police Investigation
Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp has called for law enforcement to investigate the group, arguing the imagery constitutes incitement to violence. He drew a stark comparison to highlight what he characterised as unequal application of the law.
Philp told The Telegraph that if similar imagery targeted migrant accommodation rather than government vehicles, arrests would likely follow immediately. He referenced the case of Lucy Connolly, who faced prosecution for incitement to violence, as evidence of disparate treatment.
Inciting violence against public authorities carrying out laws is disgraceful, Philp stated, emphasising that Britain resolves disputes through democratic debate rather than mob action.
Council Refuses Cooperation With Federal Law
The Conservative politician condemned what he termed an “extreme left-wing, open-borders council” actively working to obstruct enforcement of immigration law. The Green Party administration’s stance represents a direct challenge to the Home Office’s authority to remove individuals residing in Britain without legal permission.
Lewisham Anti-Raids has established a pattern of surrounding enforcement vehicles and attempting to prevent the transport of detained migrants. The group’s tactics include physical obstruction and coordinated mobilisation through social media when operations are detected in the borough.
The council’s formal adoption of non-cooperation policies marks an escalation in local government resistance to federal immigration enforcement, setting a potential precedent for other left-wing councils across Britain.
