Franklin Graham Slams Texas Democrat’s Bible Claim as ‘Absolute Lie

Reverend Franklin Graham rebuked Texas Senate candidate James Talarico for claiming the Bible does not address abortion, citing scriptural commands against murder and passages affirming unborn life.

In a social media post published Wednesday, Graham denounced Talarico’s assertion as fundamentally dishonest and theologically baseless.

The prominent evangelical leader pointed to explicit scriptural commands, including the sixth commandment from Exodus 20:13 forbidding murder, and emphasized that abortion constitutes the taking of human life. Graham further cited Jeremiah 1:5, which describes God’s knowledge of individuals before their formation in the womb, as evidence of the inherent value the Bible places on unborn life.

Graham also reminded readers that Talarico opposed legislation in 2021 that would have prevented biological males from competing in women’s sports, during which the Democrat claimed that God is non-binary. The reverend warned against being deceived by politicians who distort scripture for political purposes.

Talarico, who identifies as a Christian and is currently studying at a Presbyterian seminary, made his controversial remarks during an interview with Jamie Kern Lima released Monday. The far-left candidate argued that abortion is not an appropriate arena for political or state intervention, claiming this position stems from his religious convictions rather than contradicting them.

The Senate hopeful, who is challenging Republican state Attorney General Ken Paxton, asserted that Jesus never discussed abortion and that the Bible remains silent on the matter. He argued that Christians must therefore interpret scripture holistically when addressing such social issues.

Talarico went on to criticize Texas’s current abortion restrictions as the most stringent in the nation, highlighting the absence of exceptions for rape or incest. He claimed that girls as young as ten who are victims of sexual assault are being denied access to what he termed reproductive care and the ability to make decisions about whether to carry a pregnancy to term.

This is far from Talarico’s first public defense of abortion access. The lawmaker, who won election to the Texas House in 2018 at age 29, previously urged then-President Joe Biden to utilize federal buildings in Republican-controlled states to provide abortion services following the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision that returned abortion regulation to individual states.

Talarico has also repeatedly employed the phrase “neighbors with a uterus” when referring to women, including when lamenting the overturning of Roe v. Wade. In one instance, he claimed that the court’s decision transformed every person with a uterus into state property.

In additional footage, the Democrat can be heard arguing that those he describes as neighbors with a uterus should retain control over their own bodies, deploying common left-wing terminology used to justify ending the lives of unborn children through abortion.
