EU Ambassadors Fail to Agree on New Russia Sanctions Package
EU envoys failed to agree on a 20th sanctions package targeting Russian oil exports, amid concerns some members fear escalating maritime tensions with Russia could trigger conflict.
The meeting of the ambassadors of the EU countries ended without a result, Reuters reported.
“The EU envoys failed to agree on a 20th package of sanctions against Russia, which could have included a full ban on shipping services for Russian crude oil exports,” the news agency stated, citing its sources.
A diplomatic source earlier said that the package contains a justification for efforts to seize tankers carrying Russian oil, which raises serious concerns in some EU countries about the threat of direct military conflict with Russia at sea.
