Britain and Japan Seal $24 Billion Investment Deal

According to Breitbart News, Prime Minister Keir Starmer hosted Takaichi at Downing Street for talks ahead of both leaders attending the G7 summit opening Monday in France.

More than 10 trade agreements were signed during the visit, with a £9 billion offshore wind farm project among the flagship deals. Starmer characterized the agreements as marking a new era of cooperation between the two nations.

The discussions included a roundtable session bringing together industry leaders from both countries to explore commercial opportunities under the partnership framework.

Key elements of the partnership include enhanced collaboration between Rolls-Royce and Japan’s Atomic Energy Agency on nuclear technology development.

The two governments also unveiled plans to establish the UK-Japan Frontier Tech Partnership, a technology cooperation initiative designed to transform British research into commercially viable technology through Japanese capital investment. Priority areas include artificial intelligence and semiconductor development.

A formal production agreement will connect the British Semiconductor Centre with Rapidus, Japan’s newly established chipmaker, Breitbart News reports.

Defense Cooperation Reaffirmed

On security matters, Starmer and Takaichi recommitted both nations to the Global Combat Air Programme, which Starmer identified as central to the bilateral relationship.

The GCAP represents an international defense initiative launched in 2022 by Britain, Italy and Japan to produce a supersonic next-generation fighter aircraft by 2035. The programme is intended to eventually replace the Eurofighter Typhoon currently in service.

Total bilateral trade between the United Kingdom and Japan currently stands at approximately £140 billion, according to UK government figures.
