Boebert Advances to November Despite Trump Primary Challenge

According to Washington Examiner, Boebert originally represented Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District but relocated her campaign to the 4th District following a razor-thin victory in 2022 where she won by just a few hundred votes. The seat she now holds is rated as Solid Republican by the nonpartisan Cook Political Report.

Laubacher, a Colorado native and retired Navy rear admiral, will challenge Boebert in what promises to be a high-profile contest. The Republican congresswoman has proven to be a significant draw for Democratic fundraising efforts. Her 2022 Democratic opponent raised nearly 7 million dollars, while her potential 2024 rematch opponent in the 3rd District raised more than 17 million dollars before Boebert switched districts.

The Colorado Republican recently drew criticism from President Donald Trump after she campaigned for Representative Thomas Massie of Kentucky. Following her endorsement of Massie, Trump indicated he would welcome a primary challenger against Boebert. However, Trump’s public rebuke came after Colorado’s March 18 filing deadline for congressional primaries, rendering any potential challenge impossible for this cycle.

Boebert is positioned to become the only remaining House Republican from the original quartet of GOP lawmakers who pushed for a vote to release the Epstein files, assuming she wins reelection in November.

The congresswoman has shown a pattern of electoral underperformance relative to district fundamentals. In 2024, Trump carried the district by 27 points, yet Boebert defeated her opponent by only 12 points. Her 2022 race ranked among the closest in the nation despite the district’s Republican lean. She subsequently relocated across the state in 2024 to contest a more reliably Republican seat after former Representative Ken Buck resigned.
