London Council Refuses to Help Immigration Enforcement

A London council controlled by the Green Party will stop sharing intelligence on illegal migrants with the Home Office, a move critics warn could create security risks and incentivize human trafficking.

The Lambeth Council decision means local authorities will no longer provide information about foreign nationals in their area to federal immigration officials, raising concerns about a potential security crisis in and around the British capital.

Jonathan Bartley, former co-leader of the Green Party who drove the policy change, justified the decision by claiming immigration enforcement operations were causing fear and dividing communities in the borough.

Bartley framed the move in terms of diversity and inclusion ideology, stating that the council wants all residents to feel safe and able to access public services without concern about immigration status checks.

The Green politician said migrants fear contact from immigration enforcement and may avoid seeking help from the council even when facing exploitative situations. He announced a comprehensive review of all council services to ensure non-cooperation with immigration authorities, explicitly referencing efforts to combat what he called the “hostile environment” toward illegal migrants.

According to Bartley, Lambeth should function as a safe community where every person has access to public services without fear, regardless of their immigration status.

The policy directly parallels sanctuary city frameworks championed by left-wing Democrats across the United States, where local officials have similarly refused collaboration with federal immigration enforcement.

Conservative Member of Parliament Chris Philp condemned the council’s decision as both extreme and dangerous, warning it could incentivize human trafficking networks to direct more illegal migrants toward London.

Philp emphasized that immigration officers perform vital work tracking down individuals who have entered the country illegally, and preventing them from fulfilling their duties sends a clear message to human traffickers that Britain can be easily exploited. The only thing the Greens stand for is open borders at all costs, the Conservative MP stated, as reported by Breitbart News.

The Green Party has adopted increasingly radical pro-migration positions in recent years. Party members have previously supported amnesty programs for illegal aliens and taxpayer-funded housing provisions for those without legal status.

A 2023 Green Party policy document formally declared the organization’s commitment to achieving a “world without borders” and specified that illegal immigration should never be treated as a criminal offense under any circumstances.

The Lambeth decision marks a significant escalation in local government resistance to national immigration policy, potentially setting a precedent for other progressive councils across Britain.
