House Minority Whip Katherine Clark dismissed Republican criticism of Democratic healthcare policy during a Friday appearance on CNBC, as Breitbart News reports, insisting that the current administration bears full responsibility for reduced subsidies.

Speaking on “Squawk Box,” the Massachusetts Democrat rejected the argument that her party had the opportunity to extend Affordable Care Act subsidies for a longer period but chose not to pursue that option. Instead, Clark framed the issue as a matter of executive action rather than legislative choice.

Clark emphasized the impact on American households, stating that “when you come in and you cut a trillion dollars, that is 100% their fault.” She highlighted what she characterized as reductions in healthcare support across multiple programs, asserting that the administration had eliminated ACA tax credits and forced premium increases for families regardless of their coverage source.

“We have to see this from the American family’s perspective,” Clark told the CNBC hosts. “This administration comes in, takes away a trillion dollars out of healthcare, takes away ACA tax credits, forces up premiums, whether you get your healthcare from ACA or Medicaid or not.”

Co-host Joe Kernen pushed back on the framing, pointing out that Democrats had the chance to lock in longer-term subsidies when they held legislative power but declined to do so. Kernen suggested this limitation was not attributable to Republican decisions or policies.

The exchange underscored the sharp disagreement between Democrats and Republicans over healthcare spending priorities and the characterization of budget adjustments within the administration’s policies.
