Britain’s reputation as a soft touch has directly fueled the surge in illegal Channel crossings. Burnham’s failure to grasp this fundamental reality has led him to propose policies that will only worsen the crisis, Bates contends.
Incentivizing Further Illegal Crossings
The policy sends a clear message to thousands of migrants currently camped in Normandy awaiting passage: cross the Channel illegally, and Britain will not only provide free accommodation and support, but will house you in some of the nation’s most desirable locations.
The intervention may have dealt a severe blow to Labour’s electoral prospects ahead of the next general election, as public frustration with illegal immigration continues to mount across all demographics.
